Nasopharyngeal Swab
The nasopharyngeal swab is a critical component of the COVID-19 testing kit.
AENIUM ENGINEERING understood the need to contribute to overcome the pandemic. For this reason, we put our multivolume variable density patent at the health service , and together with the most advanced technology of EOS E-Manufacturing, we developed a new nasopharyngeal swab certified as a class IIa medical device by the AEMPS (Spanish Agency for Medication and Healthcare Products).
Manufactured in PA12 grade USP VI, biocompatible, the specifically designed geometry together with a microporous surface structure favor the ergonomic use together with a sampling of a much higher quality than conventional ones.
Thanks to the collaboration with EOS E-Manufacturing together with other strategic partners, we propose the internationalization of this model in places like Canada and Australia.

Custom 3D Guide for internal elbow fixator
The rotation axis of the internal fixator is a key step of the surgical procedure, due to its incorrect position will limit the mobility degree of the elbow. From our department, the use of a personalized 3D guide for precise localization, in a simple and reproducible step of the epicondyle-trochlear axis, is proposed as a possible improvement.
The CT images allow a virtual choice of the anatomical rotation axis of the elbow, to later model a personalized guide using 3D printing. In this way, with the use of the said guide, optimal elbow mobility would be obtained while reducing surgical time and the need for an intraoperative scope.
The result of the surgery was satisfactory and the patient presented a favorable evolution; active mobility 2 months after the intervention: flexion-extension 110º - 30º and prono-supination 70º - 40º.
However, when it comes to locating the rotation axis of the elbow with the fixator, the surgical technique only offers generic targeting templates as an aid. The use of a personalized 3D guide to precisely locate the epicondyle-trochlear axis could improve the technique, axis precision, decrease intraoperative time and provide a better functional result.
